Who needs a morning routine anyway?

Who needs a morning routine anyway?

Everyone has a morning routine these days. At least it seems that way. Everyone except me.

I’ve always been one of those people that gets up on the 3rd or 4th snooze of the alarm, reluctantly gets out of bed, drinks a coffee, eats a bowl of cereal, has a shower, gets ready and goes to work. I suppose that is some sort of a routine, in that I do the same thing every morning, but it isn’t the type of routine that everyone else seems to be talking about.

I am in complete awe of some morning routines. Those that include writing in a journal, exercising, meditating… I can barely function on a morning… and what time are these people getting up?

Ive always been a night owl. As soon as it goes dark, my brain seems to switch on. I can happily work on into the early hours. It’s then when I’m at my most productive. If I try to get through my to-do list during the day it just doesn’t happen. Don’t get me wrong I get the necessities done during the day, but it’s in the evenings that I’m at my most creative, inspired and productive.

I did try the whole “morning routine” regime. After all, if everyone has one and its working for them then maybe there is something in it? So I set my alarm clock, got up on the first ring, had a proper breakfast, did some journaling, meal prep for my lunch, got to the office early… I tried it for a month and gave it my best shot. However, as soon as it got dark, my brain went into action mode, only now I was too tired to do anything about it!

breakfast, breakfast in bed, early morning, morning routine, getting up, getting things done

It’s great to try new methods and see what works for you, but ultimately you have to do what’s right for you and your lifestyle. I’m still in awe of the morning routines that I read about.  If it works for you then do it, but I’m going to stick to my night time “routine” of sorts, it works for me, and that’s ok too.

LOL. I literally just read the blog about smashing a 5AM goal then this one. I’m also a night owl trying hard to be a morning person but my mind’s really more active at night. If only I can just switch it on and off at a time I really need it regardless whether it’s night or day.

Hey Elisha. Its nice to meet a fellow night owl. Don’t fight it. Play to your strengths. Although it would be useful to switch it on and off 🙂

I love the idea of a routine but much like you I am a total night owl – I don’t function in the morning at all! So I like my nighttime routine much more than a morning one!

I’d love a morning routine that involves yoga and meditation. Instead my morning routine involves being jumped on my two kids and then pouring their cereal into a bowl whilst I try to keep my eyes open. One day!

I can’t stay up late. When I follow a morning routine, my life just goes smoother. To each her own though–do what works for you.

It’s great to have a morning routine. Days when I go to work, having a routine allows me to get everything done without missing a step.

For years I have not had a morning routine and honestly I realized how important it was when I started creating it!

I did try getting up super early for a while, with the hopes of some exercise and coffee in silence. But somehow my youngest magically woke up when i tiptoed downstairs and joined me and my plans went out the window! Sleeping past 5am instead also makes me happy 😉

Whatever works for you is always the right thing.

My morning routine basically consists of grumbling about how early the kids have woken me up and that I have to make everyone breakfast. Ha! I’d love to journal and yoga and make smoothies.

I agree too, I’m more of a night owl too!

I agree! You know how your body works and what it needs. Do what suits you!
