What to do when you’ve lost your motivation

When youre feeling down

Some days you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed. You know you have a million and one things to do, but you can’t be bothered doing any of them. All your motivation has gone and all you feel like doing is absolutely nothing.

We all have days like this and its really ok to feel like this once in awhile. I think its probably due to us over-doing things and our sub conscious telling us, “enough is enough, we need to recharge.”

Now, I could tell you to push through it, snap out of it, come on girl, power through, you’ve got this… but Im not going to. What I am going to suggest is a day off!

If you have things you HAVE to do (like go to work), then I’m afraid that you’ll have to put your feelings on hold until you get home. But if you have the day to yourself Id recommend you give yourself what your body and mind are asking for – down time!

A sofa day of watching movies, a hot bath and a book, a lay in… whatever it is that will help you to recharge those batteries.

A day of doing nothing is really ok, no matter what you see on Instagram!

Let your to-do list wait for 24 hours. Then you can get back to it when you’re feeling back on form and ready to give it 100%.

Self care isn’t just about eating healthily and exercise. Its also about taking notice of what you need for your body and your mind’s well being, and if down time is what you need, then take it!

I totally agree! Sometimes it’s nice to stop, put pj’s on paint my nails and watch a movie. Life is so busy! Jaimi pocketsfullofdaisies.co.uk x

Man, totally having one of these days! I seriously just want to play hooky and go back to bed! But with my job, three kids, and 36 weeks pregnant, it’s not likely! 😛

This is amazing. Sometimes, the most productive thing you can really do is to take a break and take care of yourself.

I really do enjoy your positivity! I should plan a ‘day off’ just for myself… I know I need one. Thanks for the great post 🙂

“No matter what you see on Instagram” 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻 This is perfect. Sometimes a break from social is all you need to reboot 🙂

I love a good mental health day. I just did one this weekend

Danie 31 October, 2017 - 8:52 pm

I agree. Sometimes you need time to decompress. I spend the day doing the things I really like, going to the park and having lunch with a great friend. Self-care is so important. I even added cutting out social media for the day so that I can fully rest.

During the winter season I have more days like this… recognizing that it’s okay to do nothing at all really is a game changer. Easier said than done at times and something that I”m working on. Thanks for the reminder.

It is ok to have a day off and something that we shouldn’t feel guilty about and just think how great you’ll feel the day after when you’re charging on full cylinders!

Lisa 1 November, 2017 - 4:38 pm

I am so with you, there are definitely a few pajama, movie days in my future. My hubby doesn’t get it, but I need a down day now and again, where I do not have to get dressed, put on makeup or go anywhere. I need the rest to restore and take care of myself for my health and well being.

Lucy 2 November, 2017 - 12:40 pm

Oh I love a pyjama day! Especially if its raining and cold outside. There’s nothing like curling up on the sofa with your favourite nibbles and watching a movie or two 🙂

Samantha 1 November, 2017 - 8:09 pm

Love this post! You’re right it’s better to leave the important things until you’re feeling up to them otherwise you’ll just feel worse – great post. Samantha xx | samanthadobbin.com

Its important to recognise the difference between putting things off that you don’t want to do and when youre not feeling 100%. Relaxing and recharging your batteries is necessary for your health and wellbeing and then you can get back to your goals and smash them!

Laura Bell 16 January, 2018 - 3:05 pm

Self-care is so important. I suffer from depression and it is so much worse if I am not taking care of myself.

Jenna 16 January, 2018 - 3:58 pm

I love your take and willingness to discuss a topic like this! We all have those days with zero motivation and that’s ok! There’s always tomorrow 😉

Seun 16 January, 2018 - 4:38 pm

Perfect. Love this.

Ashley 16 January, 2018 - 5:12 pm

Oh goodness, do i ever need that day… especially after a whole house full of sickness is ALMOST gone! … It’s nice to read that permission sometimes! The Rat Race seems to take over sometimes and the feeling that we have to do it all, be it all, go to it all can get in the way of just taking that day to sit and snuggle in with my babies watch a movie and read some good books! 🙂 Happy Resting!

Lucy 16 January, 2018 - 8:15 pm

Im pleased to hear that everyone is better. You definitely need some rest and relaxation after dealing with sick children!

Rachel 16 January, 2018 - 5:14 pm

Great point – sometimes we just need to relax and recharge. It’s so difficult to put the to do list aside, but sometimes that is exactly what we need.

Stacy Karyn 16 January, 2018 - 5:16 pm

Everyone should read this post! There is currently so much pressure on physical health, while the aspect of mental health continues to go ignored. Thanks for the inspiration. 🙂

Adrienne Bruner 16 January, 2018 - 6:52 pm

A day of hallmark movies do wonders to recharge your batteries! People sometimes ignore the fact that they need a day of rest …love this post!

Satoria Ray 16 January, 2018 - 11:11 pm

I love this post! I often feel unmotivated and hearing just take day off is exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks for sharing!

I’m a long-time advocate for mental health days chalk full of bubble baths, movies and naps. It’s good to remember that health includes taking caring of yourself emotionally!

Sydney 17 January, 2018 - 1:42 am

I love addressing self care, meditation is also a great way to take of yourself daily. It only takes 5 minutes.

Jen @ Jenron-Designs 17 January, 2018 - 2:11 am

Great advice, I know sometimes I tend to sprial when I get overwhelmed. Too many things pulling at me all at once, a day off is exactly what I need, now just tell me how to not feel guilty after I give a day to myself, that’s what always trips me up.
